Greetings fellow Leos of Region 5!!

Remember the past winners of Leo Idol?

Leo Alvin Chong from Leo Club of Chung Ling High School(Penang), winner of Leo Idol Season 1?

Leo Jeremy Goh from Leo Club of Anderson(Ipoh), winner of Leo Idol Season 2?

Will Selangor win it all this coming Season of LEO IDOL??

Are you guys up for Leo Idol Season 3??

Well, wait no further. It is gonna be a blast where there will be new categories, new rules & regulations(will be printed out in the form) , new judges and a whole lot more this coming new SEASON.

Let's start with the categories.

As I mentioned earlier, there will be some twist and bending for all rules to keep the program fresh and exciting this season! Some of you may heard of it and YES!! It is true, LEO Idol Season 3 is an - All Talent Show! Any talents will be accepted, not just singing as we believe that one doesn’t have to be a singer to be an Idol! Categories include the following:
i) Singing (solo, duet or groups of 4)
ii) Dancing (solo, duet or groups of 4)
iii) Stand Up Comedian (solo)
iv) Music instrumentalist (solo, duet, triplet or quartet) on any musical instrument
v) Beat Boxing (solo)
v) Other categories (Magic Show, Mime, etc)

This will not be like before where participants have to attend an audition round and the selected few to take part in the regional finals. In all preliminary rounds, the “Open Mic” system will be adopted. This is where all participants solo or group, will display their talents. They will be allowed to perform for 60 seconds and if the judges do not ring the bell, they will be allowed to complete their performance of not more than 5 minutes long.

Marks will be tabulated on the spot and the average mark for the participant will be displayed on screen. The best of 5 will go to Round 2 where they will be performing for the second time. Each of the 5 finalist will be allowed to complete their performance. One will represent the respective regional prelimary round to the Inter-District LEO Idol finals in Kuala Lumpur in April.

I'M BACK!!!

First of all, I would like to apologize to every Leo in Region 5 for not updating this blog after 2 months. Been ahem* ~~lazy~~ busy for quite some time. Anyways, it is time to keep you guys update of the projects around our region!!

Now, let's begin shall we?

First stop, we would like to welcome our new Omega Leo Club to our region, Leo Club of ACG Benevolent Unity(O) sponsored by Lions Club of Ampang City Garden. WELCOME ABOARD!! ROAR ROAR ROAR!! Check out all the latest updates of projects organized by Leos from our REGION.

Next will be my club's project which is the Musical Charity Concert organized by Leo Fion Tey.

Theme : The Revival : A New Chapter

As there were two auditions being held at Taylor's College early November and this month(January) and there are some lucky performers will get their opportunity to perform in public during the event itself. So what are you waiting for? Grab those tickets once is announced!!

Moving on, as our beloved RCC, Lion Clayton Tan had discussed earlier during the 2nd RCC Meeting that the 3rd RCC Meeting will be spear-headed by Leos from Leo Club of La Salle Klang and their wishes have been fulfilled.

OK, now which OMEGA Leos are free on the 13th & 14th March 2010? Well, if you are, then why not participate in the 2nd District 308 B2 Omega Leo Conference specially for OMEGA Leos. It will be organized by Leos from Leo Club of Ipoh Unity. Interested?

• To train the Omega Leos to have better leadership skills in the Leo club, as well as to prepare them for the working world
• To have a fellowship and exchange of experience and ideas with the Omega Leos from other Regions
• To prepare the Omega Leos in joining the Lions clubs in the future

Our DC, Lion Alan Thoo has been talking about LEOs going green. Well, that is what gonna happen in our Region as Penang & Ipoh has already done it. Now is OUR TURN SELANGOR!!! Are you READY?? Here we go!!

This regional project is called "Eco Week Project" lead by Leo Emily Choong, Vice President 1 from Leo Club of SMK Subang Utama. This project is open to ALL Leos of REGION 5 to participate. The committees will be looking at TV1, 8TV, magazines, newspapers and other organizations to participate in this event. Moreover, the project is endorsed by Minister of Education.

For Alpha Leo Clubs ONLY:

1) Eco seminar by Lion Baki

2) Plant trees or plants in schools

3) Clean school compound

4) Make posters with recycled materials and place in canteen

5) Eco exhibition at school

For Both Alpha & Omega Leo Clubs:
1) Clean the park
2) Clean the drains around the neighbourhood / ponds
3) Plant trees or plants
4) Clean up the roadsides

This project will be held from the 22nd - 28th March 2010. Basically, we're going green throughout the week. We plan to have a talk on Going Green for each one of the participating schools by Lion Baki Zainal, we'll have go green projects in school e.g. planting plants around the school, recycling project, etc. On the 27th and 28th March, there will be a Go Green Campaign at Subang Parade, the Go Green Fashion Show and the Leo Idol. Will be announced if there are any changes or additional items.

Charity Pillow Fight Event

The Region 1 Leo Clubs and New Century Lions Club of Penang Island is organising a pillow fight. Sounds like fun right? The details are as follows:

Event Name: Fight for a good cause

Date: 21 November 2009 (It's on a Saturday)

The whole point of this event being thrown is to raise RM15000 for 3 Charity Organisations; The Children's Protection Society, SPCA Penang and St. Nicholas Penang. It also allows city folks to relieve their fun and stress in a fun and safe way.

You all have been invited to attend the District 308 B2 Leo Camp of 2009 organized by Leo Club of Penang (City) from Region 1 and these are the following details :

Theme : Energize Growth
Date : 4th - 6h of December 2009
Venue : White Resort Camp, Balik Pulau, Penang.
Fee : RM100 per pax (closing date is 15th November 2009)
(Includes a 2-night accommodation based on shared tents of 4 people, 2 breakfasts, 3 lunches, 1 dinner, 2 suppers & insurance coverage during the camp)

Dear Leos,

For those of you who've attended the last RCC meeting in June before the forum, you might have been briefed about the latest developments of naming directors by the following portfolios:

School/Education Services
Environmental Services
Health Services
Public Relation
Fundraising
Social/Community Services
Information Technology
Membership

Most of you however, have submitted your Board of Directors directory to Lion Chan Kee Oi Prior to the RCC meeting and the list does not conform to the above portfolios. I understood that some of you may have decided to remain with the previously confirmed Board of Directors while some have made necessary adjustment but have not notified.

In order to keep all records in place and also to develoip an accurate directory to be distributed to all clubs, I would like to seek your cooperation to do the following BY 24th July 2009:

Update the attached Excel spreadsheet(directory_club.xls) with all Board of Directors and Advisors information.
Update the attached Excel spreadsheet(membership_updates.xls) with information of ALL members as well as their level of attainment and CLD test completion.

You may refer to the PowerPoint file (leo_guide.ppt) on instructions on filling the above 2 files. You may download these 2 documents from this blog (maar1.doc and par.doc) which is to be used for monthly reporting purposes. Please feel free to contact me if you require any further clarification on these.

Highlights of the 2009-2010 International Theme: Move to Grow

Focus on Personal Growth and Membership Growth:

During 2009-2010, districts will be encouraged to take action to grow in humanitarian service, leader development, club membership, international social understanding, Leo clubs, Lions Quest, cultural activities and LCIF support. We should do the following:

Achieve growth in social understanding – through the promotion of Lions exchange programs. We will encourage Lions from various districts to travel in a group to other districts to enhance their understanding and appreciation of our diversity and to promote global brotherhood. There will be a global youth music contest with prizes at the final competition at the LCI international convention.
Make an effort to meet the needs of our Association by empowering our members. We should promote leadership development in all areas to ensure Lions provide high quality service, to support membership growth efforts, and to meet the needs of members seeking personal development opportunities.
Identify potential leaders in our districts and move to encourage them to actively participate in LCI’s e-learning programs and Lions Leadership Institutes. And most importantly, we must enable them to accept leadership responsibilities and to make use of their enhanced skills. Remember leadership is not only a position, leadership is action and movement.
Move to grow membership. Membership is the key to our success – members are our most valuable asset and resource. I will ask you to encourage the induction of qualified members – individuals who have been successful in their professions, have a desire for global networking and a strong interest in having an impact on the community through service. Also, a membership initiative will be launched to recruit spouses and family members.
Provide new interactive Lion leadership programs on CD to provide quality leadership programs to all parts of the world.
Continue inducting women and young adults into our clubs – welcoming their fresh ideas and new energy. LCI will support your efforts through the restructured Global Membership Team, extension representatives in the field, and a flow of information to arm you with the knowledge necessary to develop and execute an effective membership growth plan. Regional approaches to membership growth will be implemented to address specific area needs, such as the Eastern European Project.
Take advantage of the Public Relations Grant Program to support the development of effective district websites. And of course, all Lions will be encouraged to “live the brand” – to support and communicate the revitalized LCI brand both inside and outside of our Association.
Share our best practices around the world. Each of you is encouraged to share your ideas, challenges and successes with fellow Lions. By bringing the benefits of successful initiatives from one part of the world to another, we can all grow. An example of this is the position of 2nd vice district governor, which has been successful in several areas of the world, is now being implemented worldwide. This expanded leadership team will facilitate delegation and will prepare the vice district governors for their term as governor. New training modules will be developed for the vice district governor team.
Maintain our momentum in providing service. We must move to make the Lions Quest program available to more children around the world. We should encourage the involvement of young people by promoting Leo clubs.
Continue to promote blindness prevention programs worldwide. Helen Keller called upon Lions to be “the knights of the blind”. We should maintain our momentum – we must move to grow in Lions service.
Promote the development of LCIF with a long-term view so that our Foundation can continue its rich heritage of bringing healing and hope to people worldwide. Training will be provided for the new District LCIF Coordinators.
Participate in a worldwide Lions in Sight program, a celebration of achievements and service. Share our message of global humanitarian goodwill with others, and conduct an activity to increase public awareness and understanding of who we are and what we do in Lions clubs.
Provide a new award entitled President’s Gingko. This special award will be given to recognize achievements in various fields of outstanding results.
Provide Excellence Awards for district governor team, region and zone chairpersons, and club presidents.
Enhance communications by establishing a special e-hotline for the district governor team to communicate with the International President, and a special chat section on the LCI website where executive officers will communicate with Lions clubs members.
